I Want My MTV - Animation for A&E documentary, premiered at Tribeca
For the documentary I Want My MTV (directed by Tyler Measom and Patrick Waldrop), I used a multimedia approach to animate numerous segments for the film. The film premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, and received a wonderful review in Variety magazine. It premiered on the A&E channel on September 8th, 2020. The documentary is now available to stream on Amazon Prime and Hulu.
Inspired by the eclectic animation styles and use of media in the early days of MTV, I chose to use a combination of stop motion, hand-drawn frame by frame character animation, and digital compositing techniques. I carefully selected my color palette from studying popular colors used in early 1980’s fashion, art, and media, as well as genuine 1980’s vintage art supplies.
I am not a part of the Lobster Studios team, but it was an honor to create work for the same film.
